The Lepicoleineae, for the most part southern temperate in distribution, is comprised of two families, each with a single genus. In addition to the regional Lepicoleaceae the suborder includes Vetaformaceae Fulford & J.Taylor, a monotypic family with only Vetaforma dusenii (Steph.) Fulford & J.Taylor of southern South America; for details see Fulford (1963b), Hässel and Solari (1976) and Schuster (2000a).
