Trichothelium Müll.Arg.

TRICHOTHELIUM Müll. Arg., 1885

Thallus crustose, ecorticate, effuse, foliicolous. Photobiont green, species of Phycopeltis and Trentepohlia. Perithecia sessile, near the ostiole furnished with a crown of stiff (black, brown or white) setae formed by agglutinate, simple hyphae, perithecial wall partly black. Paraphyses simple. Asci clavate, thin-walled. Ascospores 8 per ascus, transversely septate to submuriform, colourless, cells cylindrical. Pycnidia unknown.

Trichothelium is a tropical genus of c. 5 described species included in the family Clathroporinaceae. One species is recorded from New Zealand [Santesson Symb. bot. upsal. 12: 266-279 (1952)].
