Ascarina lucida var. lanceolata (Hook.f.) Allan

Var. lanceolata (Hook. f.) Allan comb. nov. 

A. lanceolata Hook. f. in J. Linn. Soc. (Bot.) 1, 1856, 127.

Petioles up to 2 cm. long, lamina 3-8 cm. long, elliptic- to lanceolate- oblong, acuminate to acute; spikes rather closely branched; anthers ± 3 cm. long. Drupe subcylindric, ± 3 × 2 mm.; exocarp succulent, white, longitudinally purple-streaked.

DIST.: K. Forest on Sunday Island.

Hooker (Handbk N.Z. Fl. 1864, 253) remarks, "I find that the Kermadec Island plant . . . is only a variety of the New Zealand one", but he did not make the formal change. Cheeseman (Man. N.Z. Fl. 1925, 371) maintains it as a sp.
