Celmisia major var. brevis Allan

Var. brevis Allan var. nov. 

Type: BD 76116, H. H. Allan.

Smaller in all parts-pseudo-stem c. 3 cm. long, lamina us. < 15 cm. long, sheath c. 3 cm. long. Pseudo-involucre less developed; phyll. mostly not > 10 mm. long, apex dark. Ray-florets us. not > 13 mm. long. Disk-florets c. 7 mm. long, narrow-funnelform. Achenes 6-7 mm. long, pappus-hairs up to c. 7 mm. long.

DIST.: N. Mount Egmont grassland, herbfield.

Cheeseman included both Auckland and Taranaki specimens in his C. major, giving as synonyms Hooker's C. gracilenta var. ß (from the same two districts) and C. longifolia varsmajor and asteliaefolia of Kirk. See discussion under C. gracilenta.
