Alseuosmia atriplicifolia

A. atriplicifolia A. Cunn. loc. cit. 210.

Type locality: "Dry woods at Wangaroa, &c." Type: K, R. Cunningham, 1833.

Cunningham's description is: "foliis elliptico-rhomboideis subrotundisve, obtusis longe petiolatis integris repando-dentatisve, floribus axillaribus aggregatis ramulis glabriusculis . . . Dry woods at Wangaroa, &c.--1833, Rich, Cunningham."

Much-branched shrub up to 1 m. tall; branchlets pubescent. Lvs on flattened petioles up to ± 8 mm. long. Lamina submembr., abruptly narrowed to apex and base, broad-oblong to broad-elliptic, obtuse to subacute, 20-30 × 12-17 mm., obscurely to rather distinctly toothed or shallowly lobed. Berry oblong in outline, 4-5 mm. long, red.

DIST.: N. Lowland forests from lat. 35º to 36º.

FL.- FT. 6-12.

Of uncertain status, but certainly the name not to be reduced to an absolute synonym of A. banksii as was done by Hooker, Kirk, and Cheeseman. My description is based on a few plants seen by me near Kaitaia and herbarium specimens ± agreeing with the type material.
