Trapelia is a widespread genus of eight species (Lumbsch & Kainz 2004), included in the family Agyriaceae (Lumbsch 1997b; Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004). It is closely related to Placopsis (q.v.) but differs mainly in the absence of cephalodia. Useful information on the genus is found in Hertel (1969a, 1970a, 1971a), Coppins & James (1984), Tønsberg (199b) and Lumbsch & Kainz (2004). Fryday (2004a) recently described two new species from Campbell I. collections, bringing the total number of species known from New Zealand to four, but the genus is still poorly collected and understood here and deserves much closer study and collection.
