Bryoria indonesica
≡Alectoria indonesica P.M.Jørg., Sv. Bot. Tidskr. 66: 194 (1972).
Description : Flora (1985: 44).
Chemistry : TLC−, all reactions negative.
N: Gisborne (Lake Waikaremoana, Lake Waikareiti). Very rare and local, known only from two collections on mossy trunks of Nothofagus, 800–900 m. First collected by Alistair Wilkins from Rahu I., Lake Waikareiti in 1978 (CHR 381197). Known also from Indonesia, Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea and Sabah (Jørgensen 1972).
Indo-Malesian
Exsiccati : Moberg (1994a: No. 110).
Illustrations : Jørgensen & Galloway (1983: 339, fig. 3A, B).
The New Zealand material of B. indonesica is not quite typical, being smaller and more slender than normal, and the Waikaremoana specimen is unusually pale. However, this is probably the result of differing ecological conditions and the thallus colour is not taxonomically significant since both specimens have the branching pattern typical of B. indonesica. The species is quite variable (also chemically) in other parts of its range (Jørgensen 1972). Chemodemes with no chemistry are rare; previously known from only two collections in Java and Sabah. Specimens with no chemistry are distinguished from the related B. smithii (Du Rietz) Brodo & D.Hawksw. their less prominent main stems and the long, antleriform, slightly arcuate side branches (Jørgensen & Galloway 1983).
