Mycoblastus Norman

MYCOBLASTUS Norman, 1852

Thallus crustose, sorediate or not. Photobiont green Trebouxia. Apothecia lecideine. Ascospores colourless, ellipsoid, simple, large, thick-walled, 1-2 per ascus.

Mycoblastus contains 9 species included in the family Lecideaceae. Two species, both corticolous, are recorded from New Zealand but the genus is much in need of collection and study here. M. implicatus (Stirton) Müll. Arg., is referable to Ochrolechia.
