Tetrachondra hamiltonii Petrie ex Oliv.
Type locality: Makarewa. Type: K, T. Kirk.
Herb forming broad low patches, with slender branching stems rooting at nodes. Lvs with flat connate petioles c. 1 mm. long; lamina broad-ovate to obovate-oblong, ± minutely ciliolate, ± 2 × 2 mm., rather fleshy, obscurely gland-dotted. Calyx-lobes minute, ovate-triangular; corolla-lobes obovate-oblong, pubescent. Nutlets brown, hardly 1 mm. long, densely setulose; endosperm cop.
DIST.: N. Ruahine Range, wet open ground, V. D. Zotov, A. P. Druce. S. Various localities in south-east from lat. 45° 30' to 46° 30', in damp grassland, boggy and muddy places.
Tillaea hamiltonii Kirk is a nomen nudum, merely referred to by Hamilton (T.N.Z.I. 17, 1885, 292) : "This Tillaea, occurring on the flats of the Makarewa, also takes to the river-bed, and along with other species, carpets the river-bottom to a very considerable depth." The Kirk specimen at K is in fr., and as Petrie adopts Kirk's specific epithet, is taken as the type.
