Lagenifera cuneata

L. cuneata Petrie in T.N.Z.I. 51, 1919, 106.

Type locality: Flagstaff Hill, Dunedin. Type: W, D. Petrie.

Small slender rhizomatous herb, forming open patches with rosulate lvs at nodes, stock slender. Basal lvs rosulate. Lamina 4-10-(15) × 3-6 mm.; obovate- to oblong-cuneate, rounded at apex, subcoriac.; glab. or with sparse long multicellular hairs; margins slightly thickened, ciliolate, with 1-3 pairs of minute crenatures or subentire. Petioles very slender, 4-6-(10) mm. long. Cauline lvs 0 to 1-2, smaller. Scapes 5-12 cm. long, very slender, erect or curved, ± pubescent towards apex; bracts 1-2, minute, linear, or 0. Capitula 5-6-(8) mm. diam. Phyll. narrow-oblong, obtuse to subacute, often ciliolate at tips; ray-florets short, narrow. Achenes 1·5-1·75 × hardly 0·5 mm., very slightly curved, obliquely narrow-obovate; margins slightly thickened; beak erect or nearly so, not > ± 0·25 mm. long.

DIST.: N., S. Lowland to lower subalpine grassland and open places from c. lat. 39° southwards.
