Helichrysum selago var. intermedium (G.Simpson) Allan

Var. intermedium (Simpson) Allan comb. nov. 

H. intermedium Simpson in T.R.S.N.Z. 75, 1945, 201.

Type locality: Bold Peak. Type: BD 76018, G. Simpson.

Shrub more erect, with strict but flexible branchlets 2-3 mm. diam.; lvs c. 2 mm. long, ovate-triangular, keeled, obtuse; tomentum looser; florets 25-30; achenes puberulous, < 1 mm. long; pappus-hairs 3-4 mm. long.

DIST.: S. Rocky places on mountains west of Lake Wakatipu.

H. intermedium var. humile Simpson in T.R.S.N.Z. 79, 1952, 433 differs from H. intermedium in being only 10-12 cm. high, under (i.e. adaxial) surface of lvs more densely woolly, capitula smaller with fewer florets. Type: BD 87837, grown from plant from near the summit of Mt. St. Mary, Waitaki Valley.
