Carmichaelia petriei var. minor G.Simpson

Type locality: flats of Matukituki River near forks. Type: BD 45748A (G. S. 556) Niger Hut, forks of Matukituki R., G. Simpson.

A smaller and more slender shrub hardly > 1·5 m. tall; branchlets hardly > 2 mm. wide, more flattened; fls c. 4 × 3 mm.; calyx 1 × 1 mm. Pods seldom > 6 × 3 mm., pale to very dark brown; seeds 2-4, yellowish green, black-mottled.

DIST.: S. Shores of Lakes Wakatipu, Wanaka, Hawea; Central Otago generally.

A well-marked var., but there occur many "intermediate" forms, possibly due to hybridism.
