Diplophyllum domesticum (Gottsche) Steph. var. domesticum

Diplophyllum domesticum (Gottsche) Steph., Hedwigia 33: 6. 1894. Lectotype (fide Engel and Merrill, 1998): Australia (Australian Alps), F. v. Mueller 144 (BM!).

Plants light green throughout, with shoots plane in dorsal view; leaves ± horizontal, the keel 0.25–0.3 the leaf length; dorsal lobe slightly elevated, 0.3–0.45 the area of the ventral; basal cells in sheathing portion of leaf adjacent to keel short-rectangular (ca. 2.5:1), ± thin-walled. Oil-bodies pale smokey grey, (3)4–7(8) per median cell of ventral lobe, colorless, spherical and 3–5 µm in diam. grading to ellipsoidal and 3–5 × 5.5–6 µm, finely papillose, the globules protruding beyond the membrane; oil-bodies in apical leaf cells 2–3 per cell, at leaf base 5–9(15) per cell; oil-bodies breaking up into fine oil-droplets even before drying.
