Var. montanum (Kirk) Allan comb. nov. 

Panax colensoi var. montanum Kirk Stud. Fl. 1899, 218.

Spreading shrub with lvs seldom > 5 cm. long; lflts 3, subcoriac.; umbels smaller; primary rays 3-4; fls smaller, ♀ with minute blunt teeth.

DIST.: N., S. Montane forest and scrub from lat. 39° to 48°.
