Henon bamboo

Culms remaining green. Culm-sheath purple or purple-flushed, concolorous. Branches green.

N.: Wanganui (Wanganui River bank), Bay of Plenty (Kutarere). River bank.

Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis is not as widely cultivated in N.Z. as  var. nigra and often is not recognised as being a variety of P. nigra;  var. henonis is more vigorous than  var. nigra.  Var. henonis has usually been known as P. mitis in N.Z.
