Var. rotundata

Var. rotundata Cheesem. Man. N.Z. Fl. 1906, 359.

Cheeseman's description is: "More robust, hairy. Leaves 1/2- 11/2 in., orbicular-spathulate, toothed above, usually lobulate or pinnatifid below."

DIST.: "Cliffs between the Manukau and Kaipara Harbours, T.F.C.; East Coast, Colenso!"

The type sheet (A, 10445, "Cliffs Waitakerei West, Dec. 1880, T.F.C.") has one unbranched stem c. 62 cm. long and shorter pieces. Stems slender, finely ribbed, ± pilose in distal part. Lvs mostly in clusters of 2-5, on slender pilose petioles up to 15 mm. long; lamina orbicular to oblong-suborbicular to rotund, ± 5-10 mm. diam., membr., pilose, ± cuneately narrowed to base; regularly rather coarsely crenate-dentate, apiculate, without basal lobes or teeth. Infl. absent.

There is a similar sheet of barren pieces in A from "Monganui Bluff, south of Waipoua, 18.1.1955, Judy Knight".

The sheet labelled "East Coast, W. Colenso" (A, 10446) has 5 pieces, in fl. Stems slender, finely ribbed, ± pilose. Lvs on slender very narrowly winged petioles up to c. 3 cm. long; lamina up to 15 × 12 mm., broadly obovate-oblong, ± pilose. Terminal lobe toothed as in type of var., with up to 3 pairs of small lobes below. Scape very slender, up to c. 5 cm. long, pilose. Capitula (immature) c. 5 mm. diam.
