Var. calycina

Var. calycina (Col.) Ckn. in T.N.Z.I. 48, 1916, 198.

O. calycina Col. in T.N.Z.I. 21, 1889, 97.

Type locality: "Highlands of Waimakariri, near Bealey". Type: K, "New Zealand, W. Colenso 5/1890 (my only specn)".

Lvs tending to be ovate with cuneate base; petioles broad and winged, up to 10 mm. diam. when dry, fringed with close short hairs that extend a little up lf-margin. Peduncle c. 6-10 mm. diam. when dry, sparsely hairy. Bracts us. 4-(5) per whorl, the lowest often 4 × 1 cm., gradually decreasing in size upwards. Pedicels sparsely hairy. Calyx-lobes mostly c. 10 mm. long, many notched, posterior clefts us. > 1/2 length.

DIST.: S. Mountains from upper Waimakariri and N.W. Nelson to upper Ashburton and Franz Josef. Herbfield, scrub and streamsides.
