Encephalographa is a small genus of 9 species included in the family Lithographaceae. One species is recorded from New Zealand, but the genus is very much in need of collection and study. The New Zealand species was discovered by W. Lauder Lindsay in 1861 and is discussed by him [Lindsay Trans. Bot. Soc. Edin. 8: 426-430 (1866)].
