Clematis australis var. rutifolia (Hook.f.) Allan

Var. rutaefolia Allan comb. nov. 

C. hexasepala var. rutaefolia Hook. f. Fl. N.Z. 1, 1852, 7.

C. colensoi var. rutaefolia Hook. f. Handbk N.Z. Fl. 1864, 3.

Type: K, Bidwill, n. 30, near Nelson: "foliis biternatis bipinnatisve, foliolis 3 lin. longis."

Lflts pinnate, on petiolules c. 5-10 mm. long; pinnae up to 1 cm. long, again pinnate to pinnatifid; lobes obtuse, up to 4 mm. long. Fls mainly solitary in axils, on peduncles up to 2 cm. long; sepals of ♀ more silky; bracts 3-4 mm. long, linear-subulate; achenes glab. when mature.

DIST.: S. Dun Mountain and Mineral Belt, Nelson; Tinline Valley, J. H. McMahon; D'Urville Id, W. R. B. Oliver. Appears to be almost confined to serpentine areas.
