Maronea A.Massal.

MARONEA Massal., 1856

Thallus crustose, ecorticate, corticolous. Photobiont green Trebouxia. Apothecia adnate to sessile, margins concolorous with thallus. Asci clavate, many-spored. Ascospores colourless, simple or spuriously 1-septate.

Maronea is a cosmopolitan genus of c. 13 species included in the family Acarosporaceae. One species is found in New Zealand on the bark of introduced trees in urban and country areas. Useful information on the genus is given by Magnusson [ Acta Hort. gothoburg. 9: 41-66 (1934)].
