Myosotis spatulata var. radicata L.B.Moore

Var. radicata L. B. Moore var. nov.

Type locality: N.W. Ruahine Range. Type: BD 87680, A. P. Druce "seedling from plant collected in N.W. Ruahines, limestone crevice c. 4000 ft."

Hairs short and ± appressed, on stem mostly lying rather close. Pedicel c. = calyx; corolla rarely as much as 2 mm. diam. Plant creeping. sts rooting close up to ends of branches.

DIST.: Three Kings? N.

FL. 8-4. FT. 8-6.

Plants with fr. but no corollas from Three Kings (A 7517, W 2564, T. F. Cheeseman) apparently belong here, as do those of Colenso No. 1674, without locality; specimens from Ruamahanga (W 2567, T. Kirk) differ in having upper surface almost glab. even in young lvs. A plant collected by Julius von Haast in Canterbury Alps (CM 551) has appressed hairs but larger fls, longer pedicels and almost 2-lobed stigmas.

Plants in cultivation form closely interwoven mats 30 cm. or more in diam., and increase freely from seed; stem-lvs are generally bronzed and only c. 5 × 5 mm.
