Flavoparmelia soredians

Chemistry : Cortex K−, UV−; medulla K+ yellow→red, C−, KC−, Pd+ yellow-orange; containing usnic acid, salazinic acid (major), ±atranorin.
N: Northland (Kawerua, Bay of Is, Carpenter's Bay, Hen & Chickens Is, Little Barrier I., Great Barrier I.), Auckland (One Tree Hill, The Domain, Cornwall Park Auckland City), South Auckland (Cuvier I., Kauaeranga Valley, Mt William Scenic Reserve, Motuhora I., Rurima I., Pio Pio, Waimiha Stream), Wellington (Kapiti I.). S: Nelson (Mt Arthur), Marlborough (Stephens I., d'Urville I., Chetwode Is). Mainly on decorticated wood (fenceposts, gates, railings) rarely on bark or rocks. Known also from Australia, North America, Europe (Kantvilas et al. 2002; McCarthy 2003c, 2006; Nimis & Martellos 2003).

Flavoparmelia soredians is characterised by: the lignicolous/saxicolous habit; the granular soredia that are not derived from pustules, and by the presence of salazinic acid (K+ red) in the medulla.
