Description : Flora (1985: 283–284).

Chemistry : Medulla K+ yellow, C+ rose-red, KC+ red, Pd−; containing usnic and lecanoric acids.

S: Nelson (St Arnaud Ra.), Canterbury (Arthur's Pass), Otago (Bold Peak above Kinloch, Old Man Ra., Poolburn Reservoir, Rough Ridge, Maungatua, Flagstaff). Subalpine on bark of Alnus sp., Halocarpus bidwillii and Nothofagus solandri var. cliffortioides, rarely high-alpine on mats of Andreaea on rock with Parmelia signifera and Usnea acromelana. Known also from Tasmania and southern South America (Santesson 1942; James & Galloway 1992; Galloway & Quilhot 1999; Bjerke & Elvebakk 2001; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Menegazzia globulifera is a small, readily distinguished, saxicolous/muscicolous species with a yellow-green thallus (usnic acid); characteristic vesicular soralia; and medullary chemistry.
