This var. is named for G. Simpson of Dunedin who, at the time of his death, was nearing the end of a detailed study of Ourisia, and had made many useful herbarium annotations. The Travers specimens from "Lake Guyon range, Waiau, 3500 ft., on rocky ground" recorded by Hooker as O. glandulosa (Handbk N.Z. Fl. 1867, 739) belong here, as do many Nelson specimens diversely labelled in herbaria.
