Heterodermia chilensis
≡Anaptychia chilensis Kurok., Beih. Nova Hedwigia 6: 65 (1962).
Description : Thallus lobes linear, disjunct, plane to somewhat involute laterally, not ascending, mainly digitately branched but with a few short lateral branches. Upper cortex uneven, sorediate. Soralia apical, labriform. Lower surface ecorticate, white, with thick, corticate margins. Apothecia laminal, sessile to subpedicellate; thalline exciple pruinose. Ascospores with a few small sporoblastidia, 28–39 × 18–22 μm.
Chemistry : Atranorin and zeorin.
S: Nelson (Lake Rotoiti). On lakeside rocks (Polly 1996). Known also from Australia, South Africa, East Africa, Chile, and Peru (Kurokawa 1962, 1973: 601, fig. 9; Swinscow & Krog 1976b, 1988; Kashiwadani et al. 1990; Galloway & Quilhot 1999; McCarthy 2003c, 2006; Moberg 2004b).
Palaeotropical
Heterodermia chilensis is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; apical, labriform soralia; and the white, ecorticate lower surface.
