Holotype: New Zealand. Wellington, 1874, J.Buchanan 63 – GLAM [fide Galloway (1985a: 166) – as lectotype, however, as there is only one Buchanan collection involved (Buchanan 90), comprising material sent to Stirton by Buchanan (GLAM) and material remaining in Buchanan's herbarium (WELT), the Glasgow material is correctly holotype, with the Wellington specimen being isotype, as indicated here]. N: South Auckland (Motuhora I.), Wellington (S coast). S: Marlborough (Chetwode Is). St: (Mt Allen, Broad Bay). On coastal rocks and probably more widespread than records show.
Enterographa subgelatinosa is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; a whitish to fawnish or buff, eroded–effuse, subfarinose thallus; innate, flexuous to irregularly branched lirellae, 0.1–1.5 mm long, 0.2–0.4 mm wide, the disc black or brown-black and with raised, whitish margins; ascospores fusiform–obtuse, straight or curved, 7–9-septate, 20–32 × 4–5 μm.
