Rinodina insularis
≡*Buellia saxatilis f. insularis Arnold, Verhandl. zool.-bot. Ges. Wien 46: 119 (1896).
Description : Thallus lichenicolous, at first without a visible thallus, later with small, pale-brown squamules, 0.3–0.5 mm diam. Apothecia lecideine, 0.3–0.5 mm diam.; disc black, plane to convex, margins distinct in young fruits, later excluded. Epithecium brown. Hymenium 60–75 μm tall. Paraphyses 1.5–2 μm thick, apices capitate, 3–5 μm diam. Hypothecium brown, K−. Asci Bacidia -type. Ascospores Dirinaria -type, spore ontogeny type B, 11.5–17 × 6–9 μm.
Chemistry : TLC−, all reactions negative.
S: Otago (Central Otago mountains, Alexandra Lookout, Little Valley Rd). On schist rocks. Known also from Europe, North America, and southern Chile (Nimis & Martellos 2003; Sheard 2004; Kaschik 2006).
