Lecanora cenisea Ach.

L. cenisea Ach., Lich. Univ.: 361 (1810).

Thallus pale grey-white, granular-roughened or minutely verrucose, spreading in irregular patches 2-5(-10) cm diam. Apothecia sessile, constricted at base, crowded, solitary or 2-3 confluent, rounded or irregular through mutual pressure, 0.2-1.5(-2) mm diam., disc pale buff-pink, plane to convex, minutely granular-roughened, margins persistent, entire to crenulate, concolorous with thallus, containing clear oxalate crystals in clumps. Epithecium granular, brownish, 8-10 µm thick. Hymenium colourless. Paraphyses capillary, dense, simple, not capitate at apices, 1.5 µm diam. Ascospores ellipsoid 6.8-12 × 5.1-7.0 µm. Chemistry: Atranorin, gangaleoidin and skyrin.

N: Coromandel to Wellington, coastal and lowland on rocks.
