Juncus tenuis Willd. var. tenuis

Var. *tenuis.

Plants (15) -20-60 cm high. Flowers in small clusters or singly at branchlet tips.

N., S., St. Widely occurring, occasional to locally abundant in dry to damp sites, sea-level to over 1000 m. (N. and S. America)

First record: Kirk 1877: 550, as J. involucratus Kirk.

First collection: Specimens determined as J. involucratus by Kirk and collected from the type locality Amuri are not dated. The earliest dated specimen is Ngaruawahia, T.F. Cheeseman, Jan. 1877 (AK 2982).

Formerly treated in N.Z. as J. macer Gray; J. involucratus Kirk T.N.Z.I. 9, 1877, 550 non Steudel (TypeWELT 44283, "Amuri", T. Kirk; isotypes at K and CHR).
