Fls regular, perfect, solitary or in cymes; sepals ± connate at base, imbricate, persistent; petals 5, hypog. Stamens (4)-5-(20), mostly free; anthers 2-celled, extrorse. Ovary 1-celled, placentae parietal or sub-basal; ovules us. many. Fr. a loculicidal capsule; seeds with fleshy endosperm. Annual to perennial herbs or subshrubs, mostly bog plants, strongly glandular-hairy, insectivorous. Genera 4, only Drosera being subcosmopolitan.
