Carex inversa R.Br.
Very variable, forming a matted sward, 10-30 cm (or more) high, soft, grass-like, bright green; rhizome far-extending. Inflorescence a green ovate head ± 1 cm long. Spikes approximate, sessile, male flowers at base Stigmas 2.
N. Scattered; more common in Auckland, not known from Taranaki. S. Scattered; not known from Southland. Damp places, lowland to subalpine. (Australia, Norfolk and Lord Howe Is)
A slender, weedy sedge, forming dense patches or swards in poor sown or modified natural grassland, and a troublesome weed in lawns, paths, and rockeries in some N. Id localities. It tolerates grazing, trampling and mowing, and is difficult to eradicate because of the elongate rhizomes.
