Lolium remotum
ξL. remotum Schrank ξAnnual, 50-95 cm. Leaf-blade flat, long-narrowed to fine tip. Spike 12-24 cm, rachis < 1 mm wide. Spikelets 3-7-flowered, rather distant along rachis; perfect florets turgid at maturity. Upper glume 7-9 mm, ≈ spikelet. Lemma 4-5 mm, elliptic to ovate. Caryopsis 3.5 × 1.5 mm. Weed of flax-crops in Europe, now rare; in N.Z. known from one specimen, CHR 35181 Woodcock Dunedin, in flax-crops, 1942; recorded as a seed impurity in 1944 (CHR 25545); no subsequent records.
