Arthopyrenia minutella

A. minutella (C.Knight) Müll.Arg., Bull. Herb. Boissier 2, App.1: 89 (1894).

Verrucaria minutella C.Knight, Trans. Linn. Soc. 23: 99 (1860).

Lectotype: New Zealand. Sine loco [probably Auckland]. Charles Knight 179a – BM [fide Galloway (1985a: 16)].

Description : Flora (1985: 16).

N: S: Throughout, coastal, on twigs of smooth-barked trees and shrubs, especially of Weinmannia.

Endemic

Illustration : Knight (1860: pl. XI, fig. 1).

Arthopyrenia minutella is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the thin, greyish, indeterminate thallus; the minute, scattered, black, globose, pin-prick-like perithecia (leaving a minute pit); and elongate-ellipsoidal, 1-septate ascospores, 15–17 × 2–3 μm.
