Parmotrema grayanum

Description : Flora (1985: 358–359).
Chemistry : Cortex K+ yellow; medulla K−, C−, KC−, Pd−; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, protolichesterinic acid and unidentified fatty acids.
N: Northland (Three Kings Is to Whangarei). On coastal rocks and on mangrove bark. Still very poorly collected. Known also from Africa, Japan, North America, Australia and Macaronesia (Swinscow & Krog 1988; Elix 1994p; Louwhoff & Elix 1999; Becker 2002; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Parmotrema grayanum is characterised by: the corticolous/saxicolous habit; the adnate, coriaceous thallus; the commonly white-pruinose upper surface especially at lobe margins; marginal and submarginal soralia; conspicuous long cilia; and by fatty acids in the medulla.
