Galeopsis ladanum L.

*G. ladanum L., Sp. Pl.  579  (1753)

Herb; stems to c. 40 cm tall, not swollen at nodes, reddish at least in dried material, uniformly covered in short, soft, crispate hairs. Cauline lvs with petioles to 1 cm long, with hairs as on stems; lamina 1.7-3 × 0.5-1.6 cm, lanceolate-ovate, with appressed hairs, and with 3-5, crenate-serrate teeth on each side; base cuneate; apex acute. Bracteoles hairy, mostly much < calyx. Calyx 8-10 mm long, with patent hairs, glandular; teeth triangular with spiny apex. Corolla 15-18 mm long, probably pink, densely hairy outside; tube much exserted from calyx; middle lobe of lower lip broad, ± rounded. Nutlets c. 2.5 mm long, obovoid.

S.: established in the Ashburton district, Canterbury, in the first half of this century, but not reported recently.
