Malva verticillata
ζ*M. verticillata L. ζ* was first recorded by Kirk, T., Trans. Proc. N.Z. Inst. 3: 142 (1871, as M. crispa), and was reported by Allan (1940) as occasional in both North and South Is. However, there is only one early sheet of this sp. (CHR 5522, about Christchurch, sparse); most records are based on misidentification of Lavatera cretica or M. parviflora. Barker, W., J. Adelaide Bot. Gard. 1: 107-114 (1977), reached similar conclusions for Australian records of this sp. M. verticillata has ± smooth-backed, glabrous mericarps with rounded edges; epicalyx segments linear; calyx teeth acute; calyx enlarged at fruiting. (E. Asia, 1871).
