Matricaria recutita

ζ*M. recutita L.

ζ*M. recutita L. ζ*, annual chamomile or German chamomile, is known from only one collection, from wasteland, coastal Wellington Province (WELT 70536, Pukerua Bay, Ogle, 8.4.1982), although it has been recorded previously as wild in N.Z. An erect, aromatic, glabrous annual up to 30 cm tall (more in cultivation); ligules white, soon reflexed, c. 1 cm long; disc florets yellow, 5-toothed; achenes 1-1.5 mm long, glandular, without a corona. The sp. has been previously recorded in N.Z. as M. chamomilla. (Europe to W. Asia, 1869).
