Gnaphalium purpureum L. var. purpureum

* Var. purpureum

Stems moderately to densely tomentose. Basal lvs acute or subacute. Cauline lvs undulate; uppermost lvs often folded. Inner involucral bracts acute at apex, usually flushed bright reddish purple in bud, sometimes not coloured.

N.: N. and S. Auckland, Napier, Wellington, rare and local.

G. purpureum has often been recorded in N.Z., but nearly all early records are based on plants of G. coarctatum. Most records of G. luteoalbum × G. purpureum are based on plants of G. purpureum var. purpureum.
