Description : Flora (1985: 33 – as Bacidia sabuletorum).
S: Otago (Green Island [on face of cliffs near Green Island Church, November 13, 1860, W.L. Lindsay, E]: Otokaia Bluff [on mica slate rocks, November 13, 1861, W.L. Lindsay, E], Taieri Mouth). On calcareous soil or amongst mosses on damp, old concrete paths, probably more widespread than records show. Known also from Great Britain, Europe, Scandinavia, North America, South Shetland Is, and southern Antarctic Peninsula (Fries 1874; Purvis et al. 1992; Nimis 1993; Santesson 1993; Martínez & Hafellner 1998; Scholz 2000; Øvstedal & Lewis Smith 2001; Nimis & Martellos 2003; Santesson et al. 2004; Søchting et al. 2004).

Bilimbia sabuletorum is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; the pale-green (whitish when dry) granular-verrucose or papillate, spreading thallus; convex, immarginate, brown-red (dark-brown to black when dry) apothecia; and 3–7(–9)-septate ascospores, 18–40(–45) × 5–8(–9) μm, with a finely warted perispore.
