Ephebe is a genus of filamentous, thread-like lichens found most commonly in temperate regions, and comprises 12 species (Kirk et al. 2001; Schultz 2004a) included in the family Lichinaceae (Henssen 1963d; Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005). Taxa occur on damp, siliceous rocks, often along seepage tracks (Gilbert 1992a). Two species are known from New Zealand (Henssen 1963d).
