Xanthoriicola is a monospecific genus included in the Anamorphic Ascomycota (Kirk et al. 2001; Lawrey & Diederich 2003; Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005) and parasitises apothecia of its host, the lichen Xanthoria parietina (Hawksworth & Punithalingam 1973; Hawksworth 1979a; 1983a; Preece & Blackwell 2004). Diederich (1989: 256) suggests also Xanthoria polycarpa as a possible host.
