Cetrelia W.L.Culb. & C.F.Culb.
Type : Cetrelia cetrarioides (Delise ex Duby) W.L.Culb. & C.F.Culb. [=Parmelia perlata β cetrarioides Delsie ex Duby]
Description : Flora (1985: 84). See also Ryan & Nash (2002a: 129).
Cetrelia is a predominantly Northern Hemisphere genus of 17 species in the family Parmeliaceae (Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005), with a centre of speciation in E and SE Asia (Culberson & Culberson 1968; Randlane & Saag 2004). Species of Cetrelia are characterised by: punctiform pseudocyphellae on the upper surface; perforate apothecial discs; ellipsoidal ascospores (11–16 × 6–12 μm); and bifusiform conidia (5 × 1 μm). The related genus Platismatia W.L.Culb. & C.F.Culb. ks perforate apothecia, has small, subspherical ascospores (5–8 × 3–5 μm), and lageniform conidia (Elix 1993a: 370; Ryan & Nash 2002a: 129). Species of Cetrelia are rarely encountered in Southern Hemisphere lichen mycobiotas. One species is recorded from New Zealand.
