Author Biographies
A. J. Healy, M.Agr.Sci. (N.Z.), A.H.I.H. (N.Z.), a former Assistant Director of the Botany Division, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Lincoln, has had a lifelong interest in weeds starting with his surveys of nassella tussock in Canterbury and Marlborough in the 1940s. Among his publications are two recent books, Identification of Weeds and Clovers, and, with B. E. V. Parham, Common Weeds in New Zealand , as well as numerous papers on adventive plants including his major contributions in The Natural History of Canterbury and The Natural History of New Zealand. Mr Healy is an honorary life member of the New Zealand Weed and Pest Control Society and of the Institute of Noxious Plant Officers.
Elizabeth Edgar, B.A., M.Sc., Ph.D. (N.Z.), F.L.S., joined the staff of the Botany Division, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in 1959 and since then has worked on the taxonomy of rushes, sedges and related groups. She compiled the account of these plants for Volume II of Flora of New Zealand of which she was joint author. She is now working on grasses for the Flora of New Zealand series.
