Endemic
Lobaria dictyophora is characterised by: the corticolous habit; a smooth to slightly unveven upper surface, globular to coralloid, laminal isidia which often form a diffract–areolate crust; a cyanobacterial photobiont; and a ±reticulate pattern of shining, black tomental hairs on the lower surface, anchored centrally by scattered tufts of black or brown rhizines. It is probably best accommodated in the Lobaria peltigera group, which is characterised by having a vein-like tomentose pattern on the lower surface of the lobes. Taxa in this group are found in Latin America. Madagascar, Australia and SE Asia (Yoshimura 1998b).
