Type: WELT, 12718, New Zealand, W. T. L. Travers.

Lvs 1–5 mm. wide. Stamens 3. 2n = 32 (Hair), 46 (Nordenskiöld).

DIST.: S. Mountains from 600–1,800 m. altitude, east of the main divide, rare south of lat. 45º.

Also recorded from Mexico and South America.

Frequently on rock.

Very small forms occur at high altitudes in very exposed sites.
