Racodium Fr.

RACODIUM Fr., 1829

Type : Racodium rupestre Pers.: Fr.

Description : Thallus filamentous, of elongated, longitudinally arranged, straight hyphae closely surrounding filaments of photobiont, ecorticate, dark-brown to black. Photobiont green, Trentepohlia. Ascomata and Conidiomata unknown.

Racodium is a monospecific genus accommodated in the Anamorphic Ascomycota (Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005). Nomenclature of the genus was studied by Hawksworth (1970) and Hawksworth & Riedl (1977). It has a wide, circumboreal-temperate distribution in the Northern Hemisphere where it occurs on steeply sloping to vertical or overhanging rock surfaces in rather cold, humid, shaded situations.
