Bartlettiella D.J.Galloway & P.M.Jørg.

BARTLETTIELLA D.J.Galloway & P.M.Jørg., 1990

Type : Bartlettiella fragilis D.J.Galloway & P.M.Jørg.

Description : Thallus fruticulose, mat-forming of small, fragile, terete branches, dying at base. Photobiont green, ? Trebouxia. Ascomata and conidiomata not seen.

Bartlettiella was described for a small, fruticulose lichen collected in several alpine localities in the North Island by the late John Bartlett (1945–1986 – see Galloway 1987) after whom it was named. The taxonomic position of Bartlettiella is still uncertain, as no fruiting bodies are known. It is included in Lecanorales, genera incertae sedis (Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005). The genus has a green algal photobiont and produces gyrophoric acid and it is apparently monospecific.
