Phylloporis viridis is characterised by: the epiphyllous (supracuticular) habit; the spreading, green thallus; lenticular to hemispherical perithecia with a ±conical apex and spreading base, the upper part of the apex is glossy, coal-black while the lower parts are the same green colour as the thallus because of a well-developed covering of thalline tissue; 1-septate ascospores, 9–12 × 2.5–4 μm; and 1-septate macroconidia, 7.5–9 × 1.5–2 μm.
