Schaereria fabispora
Description : Thallus tightly attached in irregularly spreading patches or mosaics, 10–20(–25) mm diam., delimited at margins by a black prothallus. Upper surface smooth, pale greenish white or piebald, areolate; areolae irregular, 0.1–0.6 mm diam., separated by narrow cracks and by thick, black prothallus. Apothecia scattered, immersed to subsessile, suburceolate, solitary to 2–3-together, round to subirregular, 0.05–0.2 mm diam., disc black, matt, with a persistent, thin, entire, slightly raised black proper margin. Epithecium olive-green to brown-black, 8–12 μm thick. Hymenium colourless, inspersed with oil droplets, 60–80(–100) μm tall. Hypothecium colourless. Asci clavate-cylindrical, 8-spored, 40–46(–52) × 13.5–20 μm. Ascospores fabiform, colourless, 15–18.5 × 6.5–8.5 μm.
Chemistry : TLC−, all reactions negative.
St: (The Paps). On rock outcrop in subalpine grassland. Rather rare in this habitat, associating with Labyrintha implexa, Lecanora oreinoides, Rimularia psephota and species of Rhizocarpon. Known also from the type collection on the island of Vega, Western Norway (Hertel & Zürn 1986; Santesson 1993; Santesson et al. 2004).

Schaereria fabispora is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; the pale-greenish to piebald thallus delimited by a black prothallus; and distinctive fabiform ascospores, 15–18.5 × 6.5–8.5 μm.
