Sphinctrina Fr.

Sphinctrina is a cosmopolitan, temperate genus of five species (Löfgren & Tibell 1979; Kalb 2001b; Kirk et al. 2001; Tibell 2004) included with Pyrgidium Nyl. in the family Sphinctrinaceae (Eriksson et al. 2004; Pennycook & Galloway 2004; Eriksson 2005). Species are parasites or parasymbionts, most commonly found on species of Pertusaria on bark (occasionally also on coastal rocks) in sheltered, rather humid situations. One species is known from New Zealand (Tibell in Galloway 1985a: 537; Tibell 1987: 257–258).
